JOE MEEK SHALL
INHERIT THE EARTH
If THE MAN FROM TAURED was standing on one side of the analogue / digital crossroads, then this 2005 album was diametrically across the highway, waving at it.
For this was the first proper foray into digital recording, a more extensive use of samples and the introduction of those computerized voices that so many people seem to think are creepy.
Of course, the people who think that haven't heard my voice...

"Those Sunderland sonic buccaneers Frankenstein Sound Lab return with a new CD. Never has a band name been more apt. And never has a band sounded less like a band. Whoever is putting this stuff together are boffins; tinkering away in the dead of night, lightning crashing around their heads -which is no doubt powering some weird analogue technology they undoubtedly possess].
This album runs for 33 minutes and contains 17 tracks, which wibble in and out of your consciousness. They're built [created ?] from various blips and pieces, welded on bits of electronics and dislocated voices; and the odd riff from Meek's Telstar."

The original cover for this CD drew some unwelcome attention from an individual who claimed we had breached the copyright on a photo he'd taken of Joe Meek.
In fact we hadn't used his photo, but some artwork which was probably based on it and was in the public domain. Nevertheless we withdrew the sleeve - hey, its just a bit of paper to go with the important bit - but this didn't stop him from sending threatening letters demanding huge sums of money or legal action.
Wrong way round, mate - you prove your copyright has been breached then you claim damages, anything else just starts to sound like extortion - that was the legal advice we had.
Eventually he gave up, but it turned out he's got quite a reputation for this kind of thing, and more than one website or blog has received a request for money or else... including Wreckless Eric, so we were in good company.
